Frequently Asked Questions

STEAM Education

STEAM Education is an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

Using STEAM education results in students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century!

For far too long in education, we’ve been working with the presumption of teaching to ensure our students get a “good job”. But what does that look like?  We are preparing students for jobs that don’t even exist.

We are at a point where it is not only possible, but imperative that we facilitate learning environments that are fluid, dynamic, and relevant. None of us go outside and look at a tree and say, “that’s a tree, so that’s science” or, “the sky is blue, so that’s art.”

Our world is a beautiful, complex, and intricate tapestry of learning all in its own right. Why do we believe that we have the ability or the right to box it in behind brick walls and classroom doors in a place called school?

Integrating concepts, topics, standards and assessments is a powerful way to disrupt the typical course of events for our students and to help change the merry-go-round of “school.”

It takes what we do when we open the doors to the real world and places those same practices in our cycles of teaching and learning. So we can finally remove the brick walls and classroom doors to get at the heart of learning.

About our boxes

Four Little Monsters develops engaging hands-on STEAM projects and activities to spark curiosity and creativity aimed to inspire a lifetime of learning. With award-winning products for kids of all ages, Four Little Monsters has shipped over 10 million boxes worldwide. Each box is thoughtfully developed by experts — thoroughly tested by kids — and designed to inspire new discoveries and experimentation.

Our boxes are designed by our team of in-house experts, which include former educators and child development professionals. They are reviewed by our advisory board which includes highly respected professionals in education, developmental psychology, art, and science to ensure we’re delivering developmentally appropriate and enriching projects.

Finally, every box theme is rigorously tested with kids to ensure that projects are engaging, fun, and universally appealing, and to ensure that the instructions are clear and easy to understand. We go through this design process every month to ensure that your child has the most innovative projects delivered right to your doorstep.

The number of projects vary from box to box but typically include 2 larger projects or 2-3 smaller projects, tied together by an engaging theme.

The time to complete can vary for each project and each child, but expect to need up to a couple of hours for completion of the main projects, additional modifications, experiments, and extension activities. Many of our crates also come with bonus magazines or content with even more fun and learning!

How Subscriptions Work

Monthly subscriptions are $24.95 per month for all boxes. You can receive a discount and FREE SHIPPING on the per-paid price by signing up for a 6, or 12-month subscription - these are paid-in-full at checkout;

We do not have an option to select which themes are sent each month. We like to keep our box themes a surprise! All boxes are designed and extensively tested for the specified age range and include projects, bonus inspiration, and more! Boxes are assigned each month based on your order history, to ensure that children do not get the same box twice. So, not all subscribers receive the same theme each month.

Our boxes are designed for one child, but many families have children who share a box. The number of projects varies from box to box but typically includes 2 larger projects or 2-3 smaller projects, tied together by an engaging theme. Teamwork is always encouraged!

Unfortunately, we do not currently offer a specific multi-child discount. However, many of our subscription promo codes are valid for more than one subscription.

The safety of our products is our top priority. Four Little Monsters products are tested by certified, independent product safety testing labs. All of our projects have been rigorously tested and have passed all safety standards for their designed age group and different countries we ship to. Above all, the safety of the kids who use and play with our products is our highest priority.

Additionally, our warehouse operations are following safety guidelines from NZ MBIE to keep our team and our products as safe as possible. In all facets of our operations, we are compliant with the recommended safety guidelines from NZ MEDSAFE, as well as additional rules suggested by local health departments.

We’re sorry that you’ve encountered an issue with one of our box projects! We strive to ensure top quality for every box. If you have encountered an issue with a box such as missing or lost instructions or damaged items, please let us know by emailing our Customer Care team. If you need a specific replacement piece, please let us know the name from your crate instruction manual.
